This blog is short and sweet but it answers a question that I get asked regularly. When is local property paid for a newly built house?

There  is no property tax paid  on the purchase of a new house, at the date of first ownership. There would be  part of a year’s payment due, when buying a second hand house, depending on what time of the year the purchase completes.

The new house does not have a Local Property Tax ID number. When the stamp duty is paid by the buyers solicitor on the purchase of the new house, the online application tells Revenue a new house has been bought. Then the house is given a Local Property Tax ID number.

Then when the LPT payment is due the following  November, the new owners will be notified by Revenue that payment will be due for the first time from 1st November, after the house is bought.

If you would like to discuss a matter , you can book an appointment online or submit your details to us and we will get back to you.
